THE MANE EVENT

UPDATE on our NAME CHANGE from the Marshfield Lions Club to The North River Community Lions Club

Plans are underway for a "Re-Chartering Night," to be held, hopefully, on September 17, 2008.  District clubs, officers, and public officials will be invited.  The speaker will be Anne Spitz from the North River Collaborative, talking about the VIP (Visually Impaired Person) Summer Program.  Letters will go out in the next month to the District clubs.

> Lions District 33S DISTRICT CELEBRATION AND AWARDS NIGHT - Monday, June 16, 2008, 6PM, at Holy Ghost Hall, Taunton.  The theme of the evening: Pride of Lions.  Wear your Lions vests, pins, etc.

ANOTHER EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT

We received an email from Matt Kwasnik, a Norwell teen who is pursuing his Eagle Scout project.  He will be arranging for a Safety Fair in Norwell, focusing on "Stranger Danger." At the Fair,  elementary school children can be fingerprinted and have an ID card prepared.   He is asking those who attend to bring used eye-glasses for distribution to 3rd world countries.  He has asked if we, the North River Lions, will receive the used eyeglasses and pass them on.

> The Club has received a $400 donation from the Outreach Team at the North Community Church in Marshfield Hills, in support of the Lions SightFirst II Campaign.  We thank them for their partnership.

> The Club has made a donation of $400 to the VIP Summer Program of the North River Collaborative.  The club has supported the North River Collaborative in the past, most notably with the purchase of two Braille Writers for use by visually impaired children.

$$ The 2008 Charitable Contributions Campaign is now "in recess," having finished soliciting Marshfield and Pembroke. To date, the club has netted $7,500 from the campaign   The next phase of the Campaign will be the solicitation of Norwell and Scituate, culminating with another Legends of Song Concert (to be held September, hopefully at Norwell High School).
